Ultrasonic waves transmission test device in concrete-mortar

Main application:

The FreshCon device enables the determination of the initial and final setting of concrete as well as the evolution of the dynamic elastic properties (Edyn, υdyn) by ultrasonic measurements. The FreshCon device is constituted by two polymethacrylate walls (PMMA) hold by four screws. A moss material is used to make U-shaped mould geometry. Its high damping properties are able to suppress waves passing through the mould and moving around the concrete sample (concrete volume equal to 450 cm³). The test are carried out in an air-conditioned room at a controlled temperature and the sample is protected by a plastic foil against desiccation phenomenon and risk of uncoupling between concrete and the mould walls due to the shrinkage development. During the test, ultrasonic velocity, energy and frequency spectrum (FFT algorithm) evolution in function of concrete age are given by the FreshCon software.
