Equal peaks design for pendulum tuned mass dampers |

Keywords | pendulum tuned mass damper, vibration damping, equal peaks design |
Motivation |
Pendulum tuned mass dampers are used mainly to mitigate the vibrations of tall buildings caused by wind and earthquakes. One of the most famous examples is the Taipei building in Taiwan (Figure 1)

Equal peaks design |
One way to optimize the performance of such devices is to use the so-called "equal peaks design" (Figure 2). The approach is similar to the methodology initially proposed by Den Hartog for mass-spring tuned mass dampers. The tuning rules are however different and have been derived in [1].
